NEWBORN FEEDING

Newborn Feeding

Newborn feeding does not need to be rocket science but it might be a little frightening for new parents. What you need to remember is that your child will let you know when he or she is hungry. As long as you have some of the basics down pat, the rest will come. This article will explore some things that may help you with newborn feeding and keeping your little one healthy and happy.

The first thing that you will want to keep in mind related to newborn feeding is the following: feed your baby each and every time that he or she is hungry for the first few months of life. Keep in mind that newborns will eat every two to three hours. While this may sound like a lot, it will decrease as your child gets older because he or she will begin to eat more with each feeding. Eventually, they will have a relatively predictable feeding schedule, which will make newborn feeding a lot easier for you.

Newborn feeding signs

Watch for what are called early newborn feeding cues. You want to pay attention to their lip movements- like they are trying to suck, and excessive body movement. Furthermore, they may get cranky or restless. These are early signs that let you know they are getting hungry. Many parents will wait for the child to begin crying. This is actually a late sign that your child is getting hungry and may be ready to eat.

Newborn feeding may not be the same all of the time. This means that he or she may not eat the same amount of food at each feeding. Actually, your newborn will most likely eat more when he or she is going through a growth spurt. These little spurts will happen often as your child grows. This means that he or she will want more food during their feedings or they may want to eat more often. These are things that should be expected and should not cause alarm with respect to newborn feeding.

Finally, newborn feeding should be a time to bond with your baby. Embrace this time. Talk to your baby and enjoy it. It will not last forever… I wish you the best of luck and joy with your newborn feeding!
